Michael Sean McBride began reviewing movies at the University of Utah in the early 90s where he was the Arts and Entertainment editor at “The Daily Utah Chronicle.” After graduating with degrees in Film Studies and Mass Communications, Sean went to work for the Leucadia Film Company, where he worked on films like “The Paper Brigade” and “Just Like Dad.”

Sean moved to Texas to work as a commercial producer in 1997, but he was invited to go on air and talk about his experience making movies. And thus Sean the Movie Guy was born.Sean’s reviews have since been seen on KFDM, KBTV, KBMT (Beaumont, TX), KAVU (Victoria, TX) and KBOI (Boise, ID). His reviews have also run in “The Port Arthur News, the “Idaho Press-Tribune” and the “Teton Valley News” Sean is a member of the Broadcast Film Critics Association and was one of the first members of the Houston Film Critic’s Society.

Sean’s other passion is live theatre, and when he’s not reviewing movies, he can be found acting, directing or building scenery for local theatre companies. In 2021, Sean wrote his first play, the ghost story/farce, “Boo This Play.” 

Fun facts:

Sean received his Eagle Scout Award at the tender age of 14. Sean was Student Body President at Tooele High School, and Senior Class President at the University of Utah. Sean was among the founders of KUTE student radio at the University of Utah, and served at the Station Manager until his graduation. Sean was the President of the Film Front and Festival Director of the Film Front Student Film and Video Festival. While in college, Sean volunteered for the United States Film and Video Festival, which would go on to become the Sundance Film Festival. Sean was a PADI certified advanced/rescue diver with more than 500 hours of dive time. Sean spent two years living in Argentina in the 1980s.
